Belford Arts Festival … right on our doorstep!

If you’re staying at South Meadows over the weekend of the 28th & 29th of July then you might be interested in this.

Right on our door-step, the annual Belford Arts Festival is taking place.  This year it’s looking to be even bigger and better than before; over 48 artists and artisans will be exhibiting, demonstrating and selling their work at 14 venues throughout the village.

There is a real variety of things to see, hear and experience:

  • music
  • jewellery makers
  • performing arts
  • dancers
  • photography
  • fashion designers
  • art inspired by Northumberland

and a very unique cinematic experience.

Audrey – the mobile cinema

In 1967 the Ministry of Technology commissioned 7 custom built mobile cinemas.  They toured the country showing films, promoting modern production methods to British companies.

‘Audrey’ as she is known, is the last of her kind and will be located in the Market Place.  There are 4 separate programmes covering:

  • North Northumberland on film
  • Pathe News from 1920s through to the 1970s … Net Fishing on the Tweed … the murals of Ford Castle
  • Pathe News from 1920s through to the 1970s … Jim Clarke Remembered … Norham, the Last Stationmaster
  • Pathe News from 1920s through to the 1970s … Interiors of Paxton House … Northumberland through the Seasons

Each programme runs twice on Saturday and Sunday and last 30 minutes.

The festival workshops cover rag rugging, singing and pavement chalking … check this last one out at the newsagent!
